United Society of Shakers

Founded in 1783 and nestled on 1,800 acres in New Gloucester, Maine, Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village is home to the world’s only living Shakers. Famous for their unique and “simple” furniture designs, the Shakers today cultivate and prepare more than 50 varieties of culinary herbs and herbal teas as part of a business in operation since 1799.
