Earth Jams

Matt Loosigian is a dynamic, spirited performer. He travels throughout New England singing at fairs, festivals, schools, libraries and churches. His performances seamlessly weave messages of environmental stewardship, peace and compassion with humor and silliness. Audiences are captivated by Matt’s contagious enthusiasm.

Matt Loosigian lives in Harpswell, Maine with his wife, Eli and son, Micah. Besides running Earth Jams, Matt sings with ImproVox, and String Tide and enjoys gardening, mushroom foraging, and swimming in the ocean when it’s not too chilly. Matt is also a member of the Children’s Music Network, The Maine Arts Commission, and Maine Songwriters Association.

Matt was born in Waterville, ME in 1980. Spending his early years in South Portland, ME he recalls enjoying Rick Charette’s performances in school and down at the park. At age 7 he moved to Exeter, NH with his parents and two younger sisters. His mom and dad were huge musical influences. Mom on the guitar and dad on the accordion, the Loosigian family hosted the best holiday caroling party in town year after year.

The guitar sprung into Matt’s life during high school as a necessary means to accompany the numerous songs that were always bouncing around in his head. James Taylor, Cat Stevens and songs from the best song-book ever, “Rise Up Singing” kept him strumming away in the early guitar days.

A Mainer at heart, Matt returned to the state of his birth to attend Bowdoin College in 1999. College became a music smorgasbord. Matt chortled with the choir, be bopped with an a cappella group and belted it out on the main stage. When he wasn’t singing or studying biology, he was tutoring in local schools through the America Reads Program.

Before long his dream revealed itself: to sing with children and teach through music. His roommates called him, “the next Raffi,” and sang “Baby Beluga” every time he walked into the room. His parents said, “Does starving artist mean anything to you?” Undaunted, Matt persisted in following his dream, writing songs and singing with children in Co. Kilkenny, Ireland for a year after college.

Returning to Maine once again in 2004 Matt polished his classroom style teaching about clean water as an AmeriCorps Volunteer with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection. In 2005 Matt launched Earth Jams and started singing with kids and families around Maine and New England.
