Joyous Silks

By using lengths of white silk or wool and applying multiple methods of dyeing, I attempt to replicate the beauty and complexity of nature. My techniques include: taking plant material (leaves) and steaming the pigments on to fabric resulting in botanical prints; vat dyeing with shibori designs which replicate water (the way currents, air and wind interact and create textures reflecting light); and hand painting to create abstract landscapes and dioramas. By combining these different techniques, or using them alone, I capture the ebb and flow of nature – creating designs that are unique, vibrant and elegant wearable art.
